University of Auckland (New Zealand)

I am a general practitioner, medical educator, and soon-to-be PhD candidate at the University of Auckland. In 2024, I took up a Senior Lecturer role to lead the development of a rural longitudinal integrated clerkship for 5th-year medical students, with research and higher-degree study as part of this role.

I have over 25 years’ experience in primary care, including leadership in rural and urban Māori health services. I hold postgraduate diplomas in general practice and clinical education, and my academic interests include rural health, cross-cultural communication, youth health, and equitable access for Māori. I am fluent in te reo Māori and a founding GP of Oranga Ōtaki, a new marae-based kaupapa Māori service in an underserved rural community. I’ve served on national advisory groups for immunisation, pharmacology, and therapeutics, and continue to work clinically as a rural generalist in remote New Zealand and Australia.
